Volunteers paint unique mural in SE Roanoke

People driving through Southeast Roanoke may soon notice a unique piece of art. Volunteers started a mural near 13th Street and Route 24 across from the Arby’s in Southeast Roanoke. Thousands of people drive by the area everyday, organizers said the location is a great place to have a welcoming display.

Saturday, months of planning and designing culminated when Harris and other southeast Roanoke residents made the first strokes on the wall, which is being turned into a community mural with the help of a coalition of local neighborhood groups and organizations.

About two dozen volunteers showed up early Saturday morning for the group’s first painting session. Working off a rough outline drawn by the mural’s artist, Scott “Toobz” Noel, volunteers started first on the baby blue sky.
